While this is a quite large White Ash slab, it is the narrowest slab sawn from a very massive log that yielded other massive one-piece conference table slabs. This slab was sawn from a huge White Ash tree that was salvaged during very early infestation of Emerald Ash Borer. It was salvaged at such an early stage of infestation, that there was zero structural damage to the wood at all. Mature White Ash trees just don't exist like this anymore in most of North America's White Ash range, because virtually all mature white ash trees have succumbed to Emerald Ash Borer. So slabs like this will be rare for a very long time to come.
This slab measures 158" long, ranges in width from 30" to 61", and is 3.875" thick rough sawn! Slabs were rough sawn to this thickness to ensure that the very wide crotch end stayed flat during drying, to avoid cupping that can occur when slabs have too high of a width to thickness ratio. This Ash slab's sheer heft ensured that it still lies perfectly flat after seven (7) full years of air drying in protected, ventilated storage! This slab will kiln dry nicely after this thorough and controlled 7-year air drying process.
This slab would be very suitable as a floating slab poured with epoxy either side to get its width easily into the one-piece conference tabletop width! But this will require a quantity of epoxy to achieve, in addition to the material in this slab, so that is why this slab is priced much lower than several other large, one-piece stand-alone conference tabletop slabs yielded from this log.
